Mindfulness in Nature

Join the Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute for this month’s FREE community lecture featuring Mirjam Luthe, MA, on “Mindfulness in Nature”.

The call to spend more quality time in nature and intentionally cultivate wisdom and compassion practices feels most urgent in these times of climate crisis, social injustice, and global pandemics. We may find ourselves asking: What feels reliable in these times of change, and how do I ground and calm myself to stay caring and connected?

By experience, we know how nourishing and healthy it can feel to be out in nature; our felt experience is supported by an area of rapidly expanding research showing that nature indeed has robust effects on our health.  “Mindfulness in Nature” is a long-standing contemplative awareness practice supporting us in becoming vividly present with a pre-conceptual awareness, reducing stress, and experiencing our world directly – not just through the lens of thought. The practice also allows us to intentionally cultivate wholesome qualities like experiencing beauty, joy, aliveness, wonder, equanimity, resilience, love and care for ourselves and all life. Scientifically proven, it has the potential to enhance our mental, emotional and physical health and wellbeing. As social and empathically resonating beings by evolution, ecosystems also teach us how to enhance our human relationship interactions and explore the potential of cooperation and networking, if we only pause to listen…

In this talk, we will experience pieces of supportive formal and informal mindfulness, compassion and gratitude practices informed by nature’s wisdom. We look forward to a nourishing and inspiring evening with you!
