Mindfulness Based Nature Connection (MBNC)

A 6-week mindfulness in nature meditation course designed by Mark Coleman. By attending the retreat, you will be qualified to teach this 6-week course online and in person and be eligible for teacher funding opportunities through our new non-profit: Mindful of Nature.

Accommodations: Camping

Discover the profound peace of meditating on a private ranch nestled in the breathtaking Tomales Bay–Point Reyes region, where golden meadows roll into oak-dotted hills and the air carries the scent of sea breeze and sage. Here, surrounded by the raw beauty of coastal wilderness and the rhythmic calls of shorebirds, your senses awaken and your mind quiets. Far from the noise of everyday life, this secluded sanctuary offers a rare chance to drop into deep stillness, guided by nature’s wisdom and the expansive sky overhead.

New Retreat Location Restrictions

MANDATORY Carpooling! We have had to move the retreat up the road 20 minutes from the original location due to the unexpectedly high registration. A great problem to have. And, we have very limited parking at the retreat location and will require carpooling to make it all work smoothly.

We have room for about 15 cars total for participants, and there are a total of 36 Alum heading to the retreat. Once there are 15 drivers listed, everyone else will need to sign up to ride with one of those drivers. Drivers need to help facilitate this process by being responsive to passenger emails and monitoring this sheet to fill up their cars with passengers.

Please be flexible and willing to swap your role through discussion with others. If someone paid for a nonrefundable rental car already, they have priority as a “driver” in this effort. Others may be asked to give up their spot as a driver if this scenario presents itself during the process. Thank you to Topher for creating this carpool document. This will be a self organizing effort, so please use this form and communicate directly with each other about setting up carpools. Please start this signup/communication process immediately.

Marin Airporter: This bus runs from SFO to several stops in Marin County. Please note for those flying into SFO, you are much more likely to get a ride from one of the Marin Airporter stops in Marin as many of the locals will go right past these stops on their way to Point Reyes. Getting to and from the airport in San Francisco is not the easiest of adventures for local drivers. The Airporter stops don’t directly connect to the Route 68 bus pickup locations, so please plan accordingly.

Route 68 Bus To Point Reyes Station: This bus runs from San Rafael and other Marin location to Point Reyes Station which is the closest stop to the retreat location. We may need to shuttle some folks from this stop to the retreat space. The Point Reyes Station stop is listed as: “Pt Reyes Downtown-Shoreline Hwy & 3rd St.”

IMPORTANT NOTES: There are 5 spaces reserved for people who are needing to arrive early or late, so the 15 cars do not include those reserved spots for our cook, Mark, Nina, Odin and Kyyio. Please let me know if I forgot anyone. That’s all 20 of our parking spaces. Anyone who does not arrange for a ride may need to take the 68 Bus to Point Reyes Station, and we will arrange to shuttle you from there to the final destination.

Arriving At The Retreat

Location:

18400 CA-1,
Marshall, CA
94940
On Google Maps

This is what the driveway looks like from Highway 1. That entry is on a big corner, so please be safe and elect to pass the entrance and circle back if you don’t see it in time or someone is tailgating, and it is not safe to slow down to make the turn.

Dropping Stuff Off

There is a small, narrow driveway to the kitchen camp area. Drop gear off there. Please plan to arrive 3-5 pm.

Walking in to the Campsite

There is a 5-7 minute walk from the kitchen area to the camping site so please pack accordingly. You are welcome to make multiple trips so please be mindful of your own capacity to carry things back and forth. We may be able to drive some things from the kitchen to the camping site but this is not guaranteed so please plan accordingly.

What to Bring

This is a camping retreat so bring these basics plus whatever else you may need to be comfortable
  • Camping gear – tent, pad, sleeping bag, pillow, etc
  • For Dining – plate, bowl, utensils, thermal cup/thermos
  • Sitting – your preferred sit gear – zafu, bench, chair, etc. I will bring a few extra zafus, folding chairs, etc. Something to put on the ground.
  • Weather – looks very pleasant – lows in the mid-50s and highs in the low 70s. Remember we are meditating and camping – so the body will feel cooler than normal. Also, it can be quite breezy/foggy there at times which are both cooling.
  • Clothes – bring layers and a good warm down type jacket and windbreaker & (rain pants more for warmth than rain but you never know!), warm hat, scarf, sun hat, sunglasses. Hiking shoes.
  • Additional things. Notebook, pens, flashlight, portable night lights if you have them, Water bottle, toiletries, etc.

Optional Sunday Program

For those who wish to stay and self organize to either hike together or share teachings / practices with each other, we are allowed to stay on the land all day. If you choose to do this, you will just have to make sure, during the retreat, that this will work with your car-pool arrangements. The carpool efforts need to be the priority for the day.
