About Katy Burnham

Hello! My name is Katy (she/her), and I am mostly located in the ancestral homeland of many indigenous nations, including the Arapaho, Cheyenne, Ute, Apache, Comanche, Kiowa, Pawnee, Shoshone, and Sioux, now known as Colorado. The flower associated with Colorado is the Columbine (Aquilegia caerulea) and the tree is the Colorado Blue Spruce (Picea pungens). The Colorado State grass is the Blue Grama Grass (Bouteloua gracilis). The more-than-human friends in CO include the Rocky Mtn Bluehorn Sheep, the Lark Bunting songbird, the Greenback Cutthroat Trout, the Western Box Turtle, the Western Tiger Salamander, and the Colorado Hairstreak Butterfly.

I graduated with a teaching certificate from AiTW in 2024 and a teaching certificate from the Mindfulness Meditation Teaching Certification Program in 2025. For the last 12 months since graduating AiTW, I have offered weekly corporate meditations to people in the legal industry, taught meditation to middle school students, and started a master’s program in Sustainability and Global Development at Harvard University.

I have long held a deep curiosity and love for human beings and majored in Sociology as a young adult. I then turned toward plants as my circle of love and interest widened to the more-than-human world of plant biology, studying and experiencing plants in my 20’s. When love set in motion a new opening of awareness within me, in my late 30’s, I learned to meditate and studied with various teachers as much as time allowed. I never let go of the practice and after studying with Mark and my generous AiTW sangha, I knew that I had to learn more about the Earth to understand how best to give back to the one being that made all of life possible for me. So, I am currently studying climate change and sustainability with the intention of bringing these two passions (people and planet) together in a meaningful and impactful way.

I spend as much time as possible with my husband, quickly-growing kids, our extended family and our pets.
