Winter Solstice

Honoring Darkness, Welcoming Light

With Odin Zackman

We invite you to join us for a special 90-minute evening community event. The winter solstice marks the depth of quiet and solitude in nature’s calendar. The shortest day of the year brings us the most darkness and also a beginning of a return to the light. Join the Awake in the Wild community for an evening of practices that explore and honor the beauty and power of darkness while turning toward and cultivating light.

We will move through mindful reflection at this moment—in the year and in our world—and use the settling influence of nature to celebrate the solstice as a time of acknowledging the importance of both darkness and light in our lives. This session will involve mindfulness practices appropriate for the season of calm, introspection, connection and hopefulness from nature-based silent practice to reflection and journaling exercises to embrace the offerings of the solstice.

We honor the Buddhist principle of dana, or mutual generosity. Our teachers generously offer their teachings to our community. In a mutual invitation to practice generosity, our community is invited to give dana to support Awake in the Wild and our teachers.
