Special Event

Honoring the Spring Equinox

With Kayla Falk

Event Description

Join us for a 90-minute celebration of the Spring Equinox to honor a perfect moment of nature’s balance between darkness and light. The Spring Equinox has been ceremonialized in earth-based cultures since time immemorial as a day to offer gratitude, celebration, and prayers for the Earth’s boundless gifts. On this day, the sun sits directly above the Equator and the day and night will be equal length. As the Earth begins to wake from her Winter slumber, plants and animals emerge from the dreamtime, and we too awaken from the depths and inner journeying of Winter. Seeing our world with fresh eyes and renewed vitality from the deep rest of Winter, we bear sacred witness to the new growth, transformation, and emergence within ourselves and in the Earth.

Nature-based mindfulness practice brings our hearts, minds, and bodies into harmony with this emergence. We will honor the reawakening energy of the Earth through exploring the elements within and all around us: Earth, Fire, Water, Air. We will also share our deepest prayers and dreams for the Earth through Loving Kindness (Metta) practice. Through giving and receiving Metta to and from the Earth, we will give offerings of our prayers for her, and we will receive the love and warmth of her emerging sun.

We will gather for guided meditation practice, poetry, and reflection in community.

Hello, sun in my face.
Hello you who made
The morning and
Spread it over the fields…
Watch, now, how I
Start the day
In happiness, In kindness.
